Fed: Labor is soft on people smuggling, Downer says
SYDNEY, April 18 AAP - Federal Labor is soft on people smuggling and any move by the
opposition to ease Australia's immigration policies will reignite the threat, Foreign
Affairs Minister Alexander Downer says.
Under controversial plans outlined last night, Cuban and Haitian refugees held at Guantanamo
Bay could be resettled in Australia, while asylum seekers intercepted en route to Australia
and sent to Nauru would be resettled in the United States.
