LISBON, Portugal, Mar. 30, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- News media and
academic circles in Portugal are competing to explain why the
television-watching public named former dictator Antonio de
Oliveira Salazar "The Greatest Portuguese Who Ever Lived" in a
recent poll.
Salazar, who ruled the Portuguese Republic from 1932 to 1968,
was kindly remembered by participants in a poll conducted by the
state television channel RTP.
Economic problems, unemployment and the lack of opportunities,
frequent corruption scandals and Portugal's laggard ...
