Houghton Mifflin, publisher of the ''Curious George'' children's books and the American Heritage Dictionary, will be sold for $1.75 billion to Riverdeep Holdings, an Irish maker of educational software, the companies said Wednesday.The company, now primarily a publisher of textbooks, will be combined with Riverdeep into a new company based in Dublin and controlled by a former Credit Suisse Group banker, Barry O'Callaghan, the company said.
