Ukrainians had high expectations of Viktor Yushchenko, sworn in as
Ukraine's president on January 22 following the tumultuous Orange
Revolution. Political experts predicted that the Yushchenko presidency
could not realistically deliver on the c ampaign promises and idealistic
rhetoric pronounced on the Independence Square stage.

And, while his popularity remained high in Western nations, Mr.
