The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, or AME Zion, was a movement
concurrent with the African Methodist Episcopal Church movement; it had
similar causes for separation from the Methodist Episcopal Society and
their missions are similar today.
The AME Zion Church was formed in 1796 in New York City after
dissatisfaction among Black worshippers with discrimination and prejudice
among white members of the Methodist Church.
