Italy, New York's Met Museum sign deal on return of antiquities in precedent-setting case

New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and Italy signed a deal Tuesday under which the Met will return antiquities Italy says were looted in exchange for long-term loans of other artifacts.

The deal _ which archaeologists hope will prompt other museums to change their acquisition policies _ was signed in Rome by Met chief Philippe de Montebello and Italian Culture Ministry officials.
