A U.S. Army helicopter pilot who flew into a sniper-ridden valley to rescue wounded soldiers during the Vietnam War received a long-overdue Silver Star for heroism on Tuesday.
Retired Chief Warrant Officer Walter Schramm _ at 75 still fit enough to wear his dress uniform from 30 years ago _ stood at attention as the medal was added to the Distinguished Flying Cross and other medals and ribbons on his chest.
