This week our Torah portion describes a community that was wracked by
violence. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were two of the wealthiest and
most advanced cities of their time, but the Torah also tells us that the
inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah were ruthless and inhumane.
The Midrash tells us that travelers avoided the cities. However, one man
was unfortunate enough to wander into Sodom. The residents of the city gave
him gold and silver, but no food. Without food, he soon starved. When he
