The South Asian community and its culture are much more enlightened than
the Italian-Americans, Andrew Cuomo said last week at a benefit to end
domestic violence.

Cuomo, Housing and Urban Development secretary in the Clinton
administration, was delivering the keynote at Sakhi for South Asian Women's
annual benefit, at Manhattan's Chelsea Piers.

Cuomo's jocular comment followed another remark by the chair of Sakhi
board, former Arjuna Award winner Roopa Unnikrishnan, that the women
present at the event were free to bid on her husband Sreenath Sreenivasan,
the Dean of Students ...
