Jerusalem -- Like the author of a good mystery, Dr. Rela Mintz Geffen,
president of Baltimore Hebrew University, saved her surprise comment for
the end.

After speaking for over 20 minutes to her Jerusalem audience on the status
of Jewish women in American Jewish life, Geffen came down hard on what
might be called the spinal cord of the American Jewish institutional
structure -- the major secular Jewish organizations.

Women have yet to achieve parity in top professional leadership of leading
Jewish secular institutions, she says.
