A poultry processing plant employee who died last week of pneumonia was infected by psittacosis, the first case registered in Hungary since the 1970s, health officials said Friday.

Two other employees also were found to be infected by psittacosis, while test results from five others were pending, said Csongrad County chief medical officer Ferenc Kovacs.

The 43-year-old victim died in a hospital in the town of Deszk, just outside Szeged, 180 kilometers south of the capital Budapest.
