James Franklin was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk
for 35 years. Following retirement from the post office, he became a
volunteer for Meals on Wheels for more than 25 years.

Born June 20, 1919, in Columbia, S.C., he was the son of the late Pauline
and Jesse Franklin. He died May 26.

A graduate of Douglass High School, Mr. Franklin was offered a partial
athletic scholarship. He was unable to accept it. However, he was able to
continue his love of participating in sports by being a player in the Old
Timers baseball and basketball leagues for ...
