After-school programs serve as havens for children where extended learning,
mentoring, and recreational activities take place in settings removed from
the violence, drugs and lack of supervision that tend to compromise some of
our city's neighborhoods.

COMMENTARY

If elected, I will be a vigilant advocate for the expanded use of our
schools as, what I call, Village Learning Centers to meet the need for our
children to have quality, safe and productive activities during the hours
