Without Yalta, life in Poland and other Eastern European countries might
have been less shrouded by Iron Curtain and Cold War oppression, according
to evocative comments by President George W. Bush during recent visits to
Latvia and other former Soviet Union territories. But without Yalta, there
might not have been an Alliance College scholarship for me, or a resurgence
of post-World War II Polonian identity for Polish Americans.
