The number of Black men in prison has grown to five times the rate it was
twenty years ago; approximately 12-percent of all Black men in their 20s
are incarcerated. These numbers are alarming, but even more disturbing are
the results of a recent study, conducted by the City University of New
York's John Jay College of Criminal Justice, that shows Black men who
reveal a criminal background on a job application are only about one-third
as likely as white men with similar applications to receive the
