A rocket attack targeting U.S. ships at Jordan's Aqaba port is the latest in a number of incidents of violence in the area of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and the Gulf of Aqaba, which borders Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia.
_ Oct. 7, 2004: Three car bombs, each packed with 440 pounds of explosives, explode at the Egyptian resort of Taba, near the Israeli border, and at another resort, Ras Shitan, 35 miles south along the Sinai coast. The blasts kill 34 people, including 11 Israelis, and devastate part of the Taba Hilton.
