Statement of the Honorable Chairman Richard Pombo Committee on House Resources
July 19, 2005 Today, we have a number of highly qualified individuals that
will give us testimony regarding a petition to list the eastern oyster
as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act. While I believe
the petitioner has outlined a number of problems previously documented
specific to the Chesapeake Bay, he has NOT given the National Marine Fisheries
Service (NMFS) reason to list the eastern oyster. Simply, we have before
