Advani wins over Pakistan, alienates his party

Bharatiya Janata Party President Lal Kishenchand Advani, who had resigned
following the controversy over his praise of Pakistan's founder Mohammed
Ali Jinnah, withdrew his resignation June 10. But in the process, Advani
damaged his credibility, bruised his party politically and drained BJP
cadres emotionally.

The furor began when during his trip to his birthplace, Karachi, Pakistan,
Advani visited Jinnah's mausoleum and lauded the man who is perceived as
the key figure behind India's Partition in 1947 into India and Pakistan.
