Shivering in the chilly April evening breeze of Orange County, California,
I wait for Kaveri Shankar outside Barnes and Noble. Kaveri, sitar maestro
Pandit Ravi Shankar's granddaughter, lives in southern California.

How would I recognize her, I wonder. Blonde, tall, newspapers in India had
reported. Suddenly, I see a tall girl, with long, curly, cascading and
unmistakably 'Shankar' tresses, striding up towards me, smiling broadly.
She is anything but blonde! She does stand out in a crowd, I think, as I
return her broad grin and handshake.
