NSW: Vaccine will produce woollier sheep

SYDNEY, July 22 AAP - Scientists are developing a vaccine that will make Australia's
sheep meatier and woollier.

The vaccine is designed to target the millions of microbes in the first part of a sheep's
stomach, or rumen.

The microbes, known as rumen protozoa, are essential to break down food, but also devour
each other, preventing a flow of wool-boosting protein to the sheep.

Dr Andre-Denis Wright, a molecular biologist with CSIRO Livestock Industries, said
the vaccine would ensure more of the protozoa ...
