Pope Benedict XVI plans to vacation in the Italian Alps and then at the lakeside papal retreat in the hills south of Rome this summer, following in the footsteps of his predecessor, John Paul II, the Vatican said Tuesday.
Benedict will holiday in Les Combes, in Valle d'Aosta near France, from July 11-28, and will recite his traditional Sunday blessings on the two Sundays he is there, the papal household said in a statement.
