Horse: Another impressive win for Afleet Alex at Belmont
BELMONT, New York, June 11 AFP - Afleet Alex roared past Giacomo at the top of the
stretch en route to a convincing seven-length victory Saturday in the $US1 million ($A1.3
million) Belmont Stakes.
After Giacomo won the Kentucky Derby as a 50-1 longshot and Afleet Alex captured the
Preakness Stakes, despite a near fall, the last stop in American racing's Triple Crown,
the 1.5 mile (2410-metre) Belmont, was billed as the race that could determine the three-year-old
champion.
