Organized labor suffering declining numbers
|
Cooper, Jim
Michigan Chronicle
04-19-2005
The solution to the decline of organized labor's muscle, as we've heard
about in recent published reports, is exactly the plan that some leaders
are mulling. Service Employees International Union President Andy Stern's
vision of a more unified and diverse membership that works with contractors
and other unions and becomes more politically viable is the wave of the
future -- if organized labor is to maintain its viability. Finding a way to
bring more authority and financing to unions at the local level is just as
critical to a grassroots rebuilding effort.
