A statue of Czar Alexander II, a reformist 19th century leader whose reign brought the end of serfdom and saw Russian imperial expansion in Central Asia, was unveiled in Moscow on Tuesday.
Russian Orthodox Patriarch Alexy II blessed the 6-meter (20-foot) high bronze statue backed by marble columns, which stands near the Christ the Savior Cathedral and depicts the czar in a military uniform and cloak. He showered it with holy water.
