Asbestos foundation opposes Hardie release from civil penalties

PERTH, June 6 AAP - The Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia will oppose any attempt
to release directors of building products company James Hardie Industries from civil penalties.

A draft deal to compensate asbestos victims, brokered last December, only allows for
releasing James Hardie directors from civil liability.

NSW Premier Bob Carr said last week the company was trying to protect itself from civil
penalties that could be enforced by the commonwealth ...
