NT: Arnhem Land senior elder to be farewelled

DARWIN, May 12 AAP - A highly respected Northern Territory Aboriginal elder will be
farewelled at a two-week long funeral beginning this weekend.

Madatpuma* Ganambarr, 88, died two months ago at a remote community in north-east Arnhem
Land, but details of his death are only just being made public now.

The traditional Yolngu elder was a senior lawman in the community, a respected artist
and warrior, who helped protect Australia's north during World War II as a member of the
NT Reconnaissance Unit.
