Gusts knock wind out of trees, power lines

Strong winds tore through North Jersey on Thursday, knocking down trees and power lines in several towns.

In Teaneck, trees fells like dominoes at seven locations during the brief but powerful gusts, police Sgt. Mark Distler said.

"Some people said it seemed like a tornado," he said.

About four trees were reported down in Englewood and a large tree in Leonia on Highwood Avenue brought down a tangle of utility lines as it fell, ...
