Girard College increased its enrollment this year to 678 students - the
school's highest enrollment since 1965. According to figures released by
the admissions department, 159 new students were enrolled this year at the
private boarding school.

The student body is predominantly African American (81 percent), but Girard
has seen significant increases in the numbers of Asian, Latino and
multiracial students. Following a recent trend, there are more girls than
boys in its three schools - 368 girls, or 54 percent, versus 310 boys, or
