Famous well losing lustre as attraction

MALACCA, Sat. - An old well at Merlimau near here, believed to have been

built during the Portuguese occupation of Malacca bet- ween 1511 and
1641, is in a state of neglect.

The well, known as Perigi Peringgi before being officially renamed

Perigi Portugis a few years back by the Museum and Antiquities

Department, is situated off Merlimau beach near Makam Tun Teja (Tun

Teja's Grave) at Kampung Pengkalan Samak, 50km from Malacca city.
