35,000 postal workers to strike in Romania

A union leader said Sunday that some 35,000 Romanian postal workers would begin a 10-day strike this week to demand a 16-percent wage increase, which the post office says it cannot afford.
The strike is to begin at midnight Sunday, and all post offices across Romania will be closed by Monday, said Matei Bratianu, the head of the National Trade Union Bloc, according to state news agency Rompres.
If the workers' salary demands were still not met after 10 days, union leaders would decide what to do further, Bratianu was quoted as saying. ...
