Friday, April 1, 2005 -- Pessah is in the air, and so is Rosh Hodesh Nisan, the first of the Hebrew month of Nisan, a date which plays a prominent role in this week's portion of Shemini.

The first of Nisan is an occasion of great joy - the day when the Almighty gave us His first commandment: "This renewal of the moon shall be to you the festival of the New Moon. It is to be to you the first month of the months of the year" (Exodus 12:2).
