TAS: Management plan to protect Heard, McDonald islands
HOBART, March 31 AAP - Human activity on Australia's most isolated reserve could be
further restricted to protect its unique flora and fauna from damage and introduced organisms.
The Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve draft management plan aims to
protect the plants and animals within the 65,000 sq km protected area.
Australian Antarctic Division environmental manager Tom Maggs said many adventurers
were keen to travel to Heard and McDonald islands because of their remoteness.
