Fed: Howard defends decision to ask Turkey for road works
CANBERRA, March 11 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today defended his government's
decision to ask Turkey to carry out controversial road works at Gallipoli.
The Turkish government has been criticised for road widening work at Anzac Cove, amid
fears Australian soldiers' remains may be disturbed.
After days of media coverage about the issue, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer yesterday
conceded that the Australian government, via former Veterans Affairs Minister Danna Vale,
