This week's Torah portion contains the very heart of Torah: the Ten
Commandments. Several years ago, one of my students tried to catch me in a
"stump the rabbi" session using just that.

Student: "God can do anything, right?" Rabbi: "If not God, then who?" (I
love answering a question with a question).

Student: "Then if God can do anything, why did He need two tablets for the
commandments? Couldn't He fit them all on one?" Rabbi: "Can I get back to
you on that?"

Of course, whenever any of us attempt to ascribe a motive to God's actions,
we must tread lightly, ...
