Fed: Aust faces major cultural shift to fix skills crisis - govt

CANBERRA, March 6 AAP - A major cultural shift in the way Australians viewed education,
training and immigration was necessary if the nation was to overcome a serious skills
shortage, the federal government and business said today.

Prime Minister John Howard said a cultural preoccupation by a generation of parents
with getting their children a university education was to blame for the shortage of skilled
workers across a number of sectors, particularly the trades.
