IN keeping with current thinking about the importance of the English language, I feel there is a dire need for greater emphasis on explicit grammar instruction in schools.

An important aspect to learning a language adequately is the learning of grammar. The typical context in which a young Malaysian learns English is one in which the only contact with the language is during the lesson itself.
