Gospel Music's Roots Are Planted in Struggle and Uplift

The music of today is saturated with Hip Hop, pop, R&B and neo soul, yet
the roots of "Black" music as we know it are planted in Gospel music. A
19th century Christian phenomenon, Gospel music was birthed by African
American plantation slaves who sang words of struggle and triumph to get
them through the day. Songs like "Amazing Grace", "Precious Lord" and "It
is well" are embedded in the history and traditions of Black culture.
