National Museum of African Art Showcases Its "Treasures"

Seventy-three exceptional masks and statuaries are on view in "Treasures"
to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the National Museum of African Art.
The exhibit, which opened on November 17th, will run until August 15, 2005.
"I chose the familiar - traditional sculpture - to reveal aesthetic
variances, to see African art as form, not function. `Treasures,'
therefore, is about visual exploration and aesthetic discovery," says
Sharon F. Patton, museum director and exhibition curator.
