Fed: Aust welcomes ceasefire as first step to Middle East peace
CANBERRA, Feb 9 AAP - Australia today welcomed the Israel-Palestine cease-fire as the
first step towards peace in the Middle East.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today agreed
to end hostilities after four years of bloodshed, in a move Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander
Downer described as "encouraging".
"We urge all sides not to pass up this opportunity to give impetus to the peace process,"
