(Horizons) (U-WIRE) PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Organized by Curtis James and Jack Crabtree of Arizona Near Space Research, a weather balloon containing a GPS transceiver to monitor its position and meteorological instruments was launched at precisely 5 p.m. on Jan. 12.
Curious observers began to trickle onto the roof as Dr. James and Crabtree began to inflate the 6 foot diameter balloon with helium.
"The National Weather Service uses hydrogen to fill their weather balloons, but helium is cheaper," explained James. He cited the reason for the launch was to ...
