A giant figure in the field of evolutionary biology died yesterday. Ernst Mayr was 100 years old. His theories about how species evolved are key to scientists' current understanding of evolution and biodiversity. His career is also remarkable for its longevity. His first scientific publication appeared in 1923, his last just last year. Here's NPR's Joe Palca.
