DUMONT - The Democratic-controlled council has appointed a new administrator despite strong opposition from the town's Republican mayor, who has accused the Democrats of basing appointments on political contributions and county party backing.

The five Democrats voted Tuesday night to hire Frank DeRosa, the former administrator of Manchester Township, for the borough's highest paid position.
