Renaissance coach praised for his legacy

William Hill, who coached football at Detroit's Renaissance High for the
past ten years, died suddenly of a heart attack Dec. 6. He was only 52
years old.

Hill worked for 28 years at the Detroit Public Schools as a satellite
manager in the food service department. He came to Renaissance High as an
assistant under Andy Rio in 1994, the first year for the Phoenix boys'
football program.

After Rio retired in 1997, athletic director Delores Elswick hired Hill.
Some of the people who worked with Hill at Renaissance felt he was the
right man for the job, ...
