Rabbi Michael Stern credits much of his approach to Jewish outreach to
Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch -- the 19th-century German religious leader
whose ideology formed the basis of Modern Orthodoxy.
"It's not enough for people to go to synagogue once a year, to have a rabbi
in their lives only during the High Holidays," says Stern. "It won't get
them inspired enough to pass their Judaism down to the next generation."
