Suicide bomb attack misses regional Afghan leader

A suicide bomber blew himself up in northern Afghanistan on Thursday in an apparent assassination attempt on General Abdul Rashid Dostum, wounding at least 21 people but missing the powerful Uzbek leader. Dostum survived the attack unharmed and later spoke by telephone to a local television news channel. He said hospital officials had treated 21 people wounded in the blast and that six of them were in a serious condition.
