SA: Government defends secret Bakhtiari deportation

ADELAIDE, Dec 30 AAP - The federal government today defended a secretive, middle-of-the-night
immigration operation to deport Australia's highest profile asylum seekers, the Bakhtiari
family.

The sleeping Bakhtiaris were woken at 1am (CDT) today by immigration officers and within
two hours were aboard a charter flight headed for Pakistan.

Ali Bakhtiari, his wife Roqia and their six children were placed under guard as they
were deported after a failed five-year bid ...
