The United States Department of Health and Human Services sponsored a
celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The
theme of the celebration was "Remembering the Past, Moving Forward,"
occurring on Friday, August 27 and Saturday, August 28 at the Auburn Avenue
Research Library on African-American Culture and History, a branch of the
Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.

The two-day experience celebrated the events that led up to President
Lyndon Baines Johnson's signing of the Civil Rights Act on July 2, 1964.
