NANNING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- The economic development of China' s
western region will be boosted together with environmental protection and
social progress, said Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng here Thursday.

Speaking at the 2004 China Western Forum in Nanning, capital of
southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Gao said the country's western
region can develop its economy in a concerted and sustainable way through
opening and innovation in systems and in science and technology.
