Pushing for legislation and public policy that benefits low-income
communities is what drives the Chicago-based Gamaliel Foundation, which
represents more than 1 million multifaith and multiracial citizens, its
staff said.

The foundation is named after Gamaliel, who is recorded in the Bible as
having stood up to persecution of the first Christians. In Corinthians,
Paul declares himself a disciple of Gamaliel.

The foundation's 55 affiliates are interspersed throughout 18 states and
South Africa.
