types. In theology the foreshadowing of the Christian dispensation in the events and persons of the OT. Just as Christ could refer to Jona has the symbol of His Resurrection, so St Paul found in the Israelites' crossing of the Red Sea the ‘type’ of Baptism (1 Cor.10:1–6). Typology was much used in the early Church.
